Sowing Seeds, using talents

Marc Pittman, a church planter in Maine (okay, he also helps with fundraising), pointed us to this article from the Chronicle of Philanthropy on churches that have actually given people dollars (instead of talents) to use for the Kingdom.

It’s a great concept, a great test of faith.

NeighborLink International Service Day

The Centlivre apartment complex Fort Wayne are an incredibly international community. Several people from churches in Fort Wayne worked together yesterday (September 23) to paint, clean, weed, mop, scrub…and encourage people.

The project was coordinated by Neighborlink. Visit their site for more projects during the next month.

Note: This video is a proof of concept project in community-based newsgathering. You CAN do better.

Steve Dennie, writing about a conference he attended recently, captures a significant concern for me and for anyone lookng at new media approaches to community with three questions

:What will happen or not happen if we don’t do this?

The time it takes

For the video in the immediately preceding post:

Equipment:
video camera (Panasonic PV-GS250), firewire cable, destop computer

Software:
windows XP, windows movie maker

Time:

Actual video on tape: 7 minutes
Setup: 10 minutes (I was on my way to all the places already)
Editing: about 30 minutes (I had shot the video in sequence (with one exception) and so only had to cut pieces out)
Saving:file: 5 minutes, video for broadband, 150 bps
Uploading to youtube: 4 minutes (and I walked away)
putting the link on my blog: 2 minutes

Total time: Maybe 75 minutes.
