how not to blog

November 16, 2006

1. Start a blog to prove a point…and then quit writing.

2. Teach a session about new media and then don’t do anything.

3. Tell people you are going out of town and then come back into town and don’t tell anyone.

4. Describe ease of adoption and then abandon your child.

[okay, can I stop now? will the people who never read this anyway care?

yes, you can stop now.]

More soon.

Out of state

October 5, 2006

No postings here recently because the editor is in Gulfport, Mississippi with a team working on Katrina rebuilding. For more information on that project, look here.

Things are not quiet for all for One as they work on their fund-raising dinner activities for Monday, October 9.

Don’t forget that the next Executive directors breakfast meeting is coming up soon. Watch your email for more information.

Sowing Seeds, using talents

September 26, 2006

Marc Pittman, a church planter in Maine (okay, he also helps with fundraising), pointed us to this article from the Chronicle of Philanthropy on churches that have actually given people dollars (instead of talents) to use for the Kingdom.

It’s a great concept, a great test of faith.

Thanks for the head’s up, Marc.

NeighborLink International Service Day

September 24, 2006

The Centlivre apartment complex Fort Wayne are an incredibly international community. Several people from churches in Fort Wayne worked together yesterday (September 23) to paint, clean, weed, mop, scrub…and encourage people.

The project was coordinated by Neighborlink. Visit their site for more projects during the next month.

Note: This video is a proof of concept project in community-based newsgathering. You CAN do better.

Thanks Friends…

This is it, exactly

September 15, 2006

Steve Dennie, writing about a conference he attended recently, captures a significant concern for me and for anyone lookng at new media approaches to community with three questions

:Is it a tool or is it just cool?

:What problem is this solving?

:What will happen or not happen if we don’t do this?

You can read the rest of his discussion here, but those three questions will help me shape my presentation for next Tuesday’s breakfast.
